What is a CLOTH BRAID ??.
During Colonial times, very little went to waste, and a second use for outgrown or worn out clothing was to handcraft them into floor coverings for cold wood floors. Old garments were cut into strips....the strips were hand folded and then braided. These braids were then hand laced into braided rugs of various sizes. Many people still have these rugs that might have been handed down from generation to generation.
Today, Thorndike is the only commercial manufacturer to produce a finished product that is a true reproduction of an authentic hand made braided rug. The fabrics used are reminiscent of clothing that might have been worn at one time or another, which gives every rug much charm and appeal.
Thorndike Mills Cloth Braided Rugs are handcrafted heirloom quality, and undoubtedly, a piece of art for your floor.
These superior quality rugs are 65% virgin wool and 35% nylon woven cloth. Available in 19 oval, 7 round, and 3 runner sizes.
